The feat of being the first was not easy, in the first instance as a woman, having as aggravating the sexist and conservative mentality of years 50. Maria Teresa De Filippis was even forbidden to compete in the French Grand Prix in 1958, only because of their gender. The director of evidence, The Roche, in full press conference showing a Maria Teresa photography, stated that "a young as beautiful as this should not use any helmet, unless the dryer hairdresser."

This lady ran in Vila Real Circuit in the year 1958 the wheel of a Masareti, in the same event where he made furor Sirtling Moss, which went on to win the race. It was a memorable race, not only to have such famous names as, Stirling Moss, Jean Behra, David Piper, but also because of the absence of races in Vila Real from 1952. After this Race 1958, Vila Real circuit only returned to racing stage in the year 1966.

Maria Teresa's career was brief and may not have produced remarkable results in terms of races in which he participated, yet are clearly distinct and memorable for the advancement of mentalities and society taboos break, having pioneered the path that was later covered by other women, of equal talent and passion.

Women who were kind enough to read this article, wish you a great Women's Day.
